Why does my hospital need a tissue tracking solution?
The Joint Commision issued new requirements in May 2005 that redefined the way
hospitals must track human tissues. The Joint Commission standards are TS.03.01.01, TS.03.02.01, and TS.03.03.01
and laboratory requirements QC.5.300, QC.5.310 and QC.5.320.
Additionally, the FDA announced changes in its Current Good Tissue Practices (CGTP)
that "will require HCT/P (Human Cells, Tissues, and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products)
establishments to recover, process, store, label, package, and distribute HCT/Ps in
a way that prevents the introduction, transmission, or spread of communicable diseases.
According to the CDC's letter of May 20, 2005, the reason for these changes were
"...to improve the safety of HCT/Ps by preventing the introduction, transmission,
and spread of communicable disease."
Why can't we just track tissues the same way we always have?
Actually, you can, if your process and systems meet the Joint Commission Standards.
However, the only way you will find out is during your next Joint Commission audit.
GraftTracker® has already been designed and tested to meet the most current standards.
In fact, it is guaranteed to meet the Joint Commission standards for a documentation
system.
How does GraftTracker® guarantee confidentiality of patient data?
GraftTracker® uses a specialized encryption algorithm that is used by banks and other
financial institutions to safeguard their clients information. GraftTracker® guarantees
HIPAA (Health Insurance and Accountability Act) compliance.
How long does it take to teach my staff to use GraftTracker®?
GraftTracker® was designed to be extremely user-friendly and easy to use by all
levels of personnel. As part of the initial setup package, we will come to your
facility and install the program, load your current tissue information and train
your staff members.
