Tracking human tissues has become more critical since the Joint Commission's, FDA and CDC's standard changes in 2005. In order to meet the accreditation criteria, your hospital must meet the Joint Commission's TS.03.01.01, TS.03.02.01, and TS.03.03.01 as well as laboratory standards QC.5.300, QC5.310, and QC.5.320.
These regulations define how a hospital that handles the following types of human tissue material must maintain historical records:

It is possible to meet the regulations using a simple log book, but there is a better way.
GraftTracker®, from Champion Medical Technologies, is designed to simplify your logging and tracking of human tissue grafts to comply with Joint Commission standards. Grafttracker® is a state-of-the-art computer program that allows members of the tissue usage team to receive, manage, and distribute the individual tissues while maintaining a living history of every tissue in the hospital's inventory.
GraftTracker® is designed to run on any Internet-connected computer. There is no software to install or maintain. GraftTracker® is an "application service provider" (ASP) program. There are no applets or ActiveX code ever loaded onto the local hospital PC. The hospital's database of tissues is secured through 256-bit encryption, the same level of security utilized by banks and other financial institutions.
